Christopher Reeve personified what it meant to be a hero for millions of people in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
He won the BAFTA for Most Promising Male Newcomer for his role as the DC comic book hero Superman, which first appeared on film in 1978.
Superman II, Superman III, and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace all featured the gorgeous and charming actor in the title role.
His name has been inextricably linked to a legendary superhero.
Christopher Reeve, who was born in New York in 1952, was involved in many other fields outside acting.

The actor’s organisation claims that Christopher’s mum pleaded with doctors to turn off his life support so he could die.
The New York Times reported subsequently that the actor’s life would have been lost if he had fallen just one centimetre to the left. Christopher would have only had a concussion if he had fallen even slightly to the right.
When Christopher became a quadriplegic, he was just 42 years old. For the remainder of his life, he would need to use a wheelchair and a portable ventilator.
They informed Reeve it was “impossible” for him to regain any mobility, and doctors swiftly stated there was little prospect for rehabilitation.
During his first several days in the hospital, Christopher Reeve was highly drugged and delusional as he through a hellish ordeal. He thought his life was over after hearing the doctor’s awful news.
He didn’t want to put undue strain on his family, so he suggested to his wife, Dana Morosini, that they stop life support.
She cried as she said, “This is your life, and I will back whatever you decide. But I want you to know that no matter what happens, I will be here for you. It’s still you. Also, I adore you.
Instead of giving up, Reeve and his dedicated wife Dana put their energy into action, founding the Christopher Reeve Foundation. The organization’s name was changed to honour Christopher and Dana Reeve.
Together, they established the Reeve-Irvine Research Centre to advocate for people with spinal cord injuries and for stem cell research.
Christopher Reeve made the conscious decision to provide his kid with the best possible upbringing.
Will described his incredible upbringing to PEOPLE in a 2016 interview, calling it a “totally normal” upbringing.
Will fondly remembered how his parents instructed him to turn off the TV, eat his veggies, and go to bed. I know that not every kid gets to see their dad in the magazine at the grocery store checkout, but other than that, my childhood was quite typical.

Will also recalled the day his father helped him learn to ride a bike despite being disabled. “I didn’t think it had a chance of succeeding.
‘I’m scared, but I hear my dad’s voice saying, ‘Steady, steady, left, right, left, right,'” he said, adding, “By the third lap, I’m smiling, looking at my dad, waving to him, and he’s laughing. To him, it was priceless. In the future, I want to compete in wheelchair racing. He would have let me win if he had the chance.
Will’s dad died just as they were getting their lives back together.
The Passing of Christopher Reeve Christopher Reeve had a tough go of it health-wise from a young age on. His breathing was hampered by asthma and allergy symptoms.
He began experiencing hair loss due to alopecia areata at the age of sixteen. Christopher kept the illness under control throughout his acting career, but once he became paralysed, he decided to completely shave his head.
Christopher went to the hospital many times in the early 2000s for various infections. In October of 2004, he was hospitalised with sepsis brought on by an infected pressure ulcer. While taking medicines for an illness, Christopher had a heart attack on October 9 while watching his son Will play hockey.
He had lapsed into a coma, and medical intervention was hopeless at this point.
On October 10, 2004, at the age of 52, actor Christopher Reeve passed away.
Reeve’s death, according to both Mrs. Dana and the physicians, was the result of a medication response.
In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated and his ashes were dispersed in Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York.
After Christopher passed away, his wife and primary carer Dana was also diagnosed with lung cancer, despite her having never smoked. However, Christopher P. Andersen claims that in the early stages of her career, Dana performed and sang in smoke-filled taverns and hotel lobbies.
On April 11, 1992, in Williamstown, Massachusetts, American actress and singer Dana married actor Christopher Reeve.
Dana, 44 at the time of her death on March 6, 2006, had been fighting a malignant lung tumour for some months.

William Elliot “Will” Reeve was born to Christopher and Dana on June 7, 1992. Will was just 13 when he was abandoned by his family.
Will, who has generally avoided the limelight up until this point, resembles his father in his adulthood.
After completing his schooling, Will is now enjoying great success in the sports journalism field.
Now, more than a decade later, at the age of 29, Will is an eerie spitting image of his father.
But what really stands out about this young guy is that he is carrying on the excellent job that his parents began.
Will might have gone downhill or off the rails after experiencing such tragedy at such a young age, but with the support of his parents and his own inner fortitude, he chose not to.
“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles,” he said in a Daily Mail article, “and I use frequently today to not only honour his legacy but to imbue a new generation with his timeless spirit.”
Will always told his parents he would follow through on his dream of becoming a contributor to ESPN’s SportsCenter, which he shared with his father.
While attending Middlebury College, he interned and worked as a production assistant at ‘Good Morning America,’ which led to his eventual employment there.
He carries on his parents’ legacy by assisting the foundation in its pursuit of innovative medicines and technological advances for people with spinal cord injuries.
In an interview with CBS News from 2018, Will discussed a letter he sent to himself following the deaths of his parents.
There’s good news and terrible news, so hang on. I’ll start with the negative since it’s important to be realistic about your expectations. By the way, that won’t alter. You’ve reached rock bottom, and that’s the terrible news.
He wrote, “You’re in a New York City hospital room, and you’ve just said your ultimate goodbyes to Mom. “You’re 13. She’s 44. Caner of the lungs. I’m a lifelong nonsmoker.
Gone, just as you were at your lowest point a year and a half ago, when your father passed away. You’ve hit a new low and are scared, bewildered, and depressed. But! The good news is that you have reached rock bottom. There is only one direction to travel, and that is up.
Will Reeve is a very remarkable young guy.
Despite losing both his parents at such a young age, he is continuing to honour them via his positive outlook and success.
His parents would be incredibly proud of what he has accomplished thus far. What an incredible role model he is.
