Henry Cavill has said his final goodbyes to his fellow co-stars on Netflix's The Witcher.

On October 29, the 39-year-old actor - who played Geralt of Rivia in two seasons of the Netflix fantasy series - announced that he would be leaving the popular show and that Liam Hemsworth will take over his lead role.

News of the sudden change shocked fans, leading many to question why Cavill would leave the much-loved series, and some even started a petition to bring him back.

While the former Superman actor is departing from the show, he will still portray Geralt in the third (and his final) season - which will be released in two parts: the first set to be released on June 29 and the second dropping on July 27.

According to Esquire, the synopsis of the new season reads: "As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geraly takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it."

As the series will be returning to the streaming service next week, Cavill joined his three cast members, Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra, and Joey Batey at a Netflix event in Brazil to promote the new season.

However, the promotion of the latest season was bittersweet due to Cavill's departure, so the Enola Holmes star made sure to express his gratitude to his co-stars.

Batey started off by saying: "I suppose we should talk to Henry? I mean, maybe? Henry, tell us about filming your final season with us," which led to an enormous uproar among the audience.

Cavill seemed rather moved by the audience and said: "Goodness me, thank you very much, everyone. I really feel the love, and I love you guys, too. It’s so wonderful to be here."

"But I’m going to talk about what it was like filming my final season," he continued, turning to face his fellow actors. "And I actually just want to talk about my co-stars here. Because, once again, it was such a pleasure and an honor to be working with you guys."

"You guys bring so much nuance and detail to these characters which are often at risk of being oversimplified, and what you guys have done with the characters has involved work, care, and effort.

"And, believe me, working with you guys was the biggest pleasure. So, uh, I just wanted to say I’m going to miss you. I’m going to miss you very much," he added.

Cavill has not given an in-depth reason as to why he is leaving three seasons in. In fact, he said back in November 2021 that he was absolutely committed to a seven-season run of the fantasy series. "As long as we can keep telling great stories which honor [original author] Sapkowski's work," he said, per IGN.

Both parts of season three of The Witcher will be available to stream on Netflix by July 27.
