It all started with a sign on the front window of a Dairy Queen in Kewaskum, Wisconsin, and now it’s gone viral. The billboard boldly proclaims the restaurant’s “politically incorrect” position.
And draws attention to the fact that it often uses holiday and patriotic pleasantries such as “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Easter,” and “God Bless America.
” In addition, on Veterans Day, it gives out complimentary sundaes to military veterans as a gesture of support for the American flag and thanks for their service.
Kevin Scheunemann, franchise owner, said he placed the sign almost four years ago to be honest about his and his employees’ commitment to God and country.
Scheunemann claims he hung the sign after a customer made a fuss over the Christian music being played in the eatery. The sign hasn’t been a problem since then.
A visitor from Oregon took a photo of the sign and shared it on Facebook, expressing dismay at the message’s exclusivist tone. Before being removed, the original post received a lot of attention.
Some individuals have offered support for the sign’s message, while others have resorted to attacking the person who posted the image.
Local shopkeepers, however, stand by Scheunemann’s decision to hang the sign, arguing that consumers may always choose not to patronise the store if they don’t agree with its values.
The people of Kewaskum, a nearby town, appear to take the sign at its value, thinking it accurately represents the owner’s beliefs.
The corporate Dairy Queen has made it clear that they do not agree with Scheunemann’s stance, and they have also made it clear that the sign simply reflects the opinions of the individual store owner.
