The newest controversy involving Jason Aldean doesn’t seem to be winding down any time soon…

Many individuals have weighed in on the recent controversy over the country singer’s new song “Try That in a Small Town.”

After debuting at No. 2 last month, the song, which was released in May, has now climbed to the top of the list for the week of August 5.

As ‘Fast Car’ by Luke Combs came in at No. 3 and ‘Last Night’ by Morgan Wallen at No. 2, this was the first time in the Billboard chart’s 65-year history that country singles occupied the top three positions simultaneously.

Aldean’s “Try That In A Small Town” also topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time. Aldean endured criticism when the music video for the song was made public, so its success is all the more sweet.

The song was taken off the air after many high-profile individuals, including celebrities and artists, voiced their disapproval, calling it “racist” and “pro-lynching.”

In reality, the presenters of the famous daytime talk programme The View discussed the themes implied by the song.

Whoopi Goldberg, Aldean’s co-host, criticised the singer’s video for depicting Black Lives Matter protesters clashing with police.

“He talks about life in a small town, and it’s different, and he chose these images,” Goldberg said.

She continued, “He’s got people from the Black Lives Matter movement, and he’s talking about people taking care of each other.

And I find it so interesting that it never occurred to Jason or the writers that that’s what these folks were doing: they were taking care of the people in their town because they didn’t like what they saw.”

A defensive Aldean took to Twitter to explain himself: “In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May).

And was subjected to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests. These examples are not just inappropriate, but also potentially harmful.

He stated, “There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it, and there is not a single video clip that isn’t real news footage, and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music – this one goes too far.”

The ‘Dirt Road Anthem’ singer said, “‘Try That In A Small Town’, for me, speaks to the sense of a community that I had growing up, where we took care of our neighbours despite of differences in background or religion.

The fact that they were our neighbours superseded all other considerations. But the song’s meteoric rise to the top of the charts gives Aldean reason to rejoice.

This week, his wife Brittany said on Instagram, “Well, yesterday was a momentous day for @jasonaldean. Billboard’s Hot 100 Number One!!…Debut of a lifetime Didn’t it turn out badly? Fans like you are the finest.
