It all started with a Craigslist ad

Jennifer Lawrence's latest film, as revealed by the director, draws its inspiration from a captivating real-life story. Jennifer Lawrence plays a financially challenged woman who, after losing her car, responds to an unusual ad, leading to amusing adventures.

The director of Jennifer Lawrence's most recent hit film disclosed that the film was based on a true story.

The actress from The Hunger Games plays a poor woman who, after her car is confiscated and she is unable to work, responds to an odd advertisement.

The advertisement offers a car to the respondent who can arrange a date with the introverted 19-year-old son of two wealthy cryptocurrency investors.

For Lawrence's unfortunate character, it appears like a simple enough gig, but naturally, things are not as simple as they seem, leading to a number of funny misadventures.

It turns out, in a fantastic surprise, that the movie's fictional advertisement was really based on a genuine Craigslist ad, which you can view here.

The idea for the movie came to filmmaker Gene Stupnitsky when he saw an advertisement on Craigslist from a couple looking for a date for their son, the director said in an Entertainment Weekly interview.
