Dem Announces in Mexico City: ‘I’m a Proud Guatemalan Before I’m an American’

Democratic lawmakers journeyed to Mexico City this past weekend to participate in an anti-American summit, during which several lawmakers expressed derogatory views regarding the United States.

Illinois Democrat Rep. Delia Ramirez made one of the most inflammatory statements when she proclaimed, “I’m a proud Guatemalan before I’m an American.”

Ramirez, whose parents emigrated from Guatemala, represents areas of Chicago and its neighboring suburbs. She proceeded to denounce the United States as being “addicted to war” and motivated by “imperialism, militarization, conquest, control, and competition in its pursuit of dominance.”

As stated on her official website, Ramirez’s husband resides in the U.S. without legal status, and she identifies as the sole member of Congress in a “mixed-status marriage.”

The summit was orchestrated by the leader of Progressive International, a far-left organization that labels capitalism a “virus” that must be “eradicated,” in partnership with Morena, the ruling leftist party in Mexico.

While the event’s website emphasized overarching themes such as “equality” and “solidarity,” David Adler — the general coordinator of Progressive International and a principal organizer — mentioned in a televised interview that the summit’s true objective was to “confront” what he characterized as rising authoritarian and fascist movements throughout the Americas.

He also indicated that the event sought to “invert” global power dynamics by shifting decision-making authority away from Washington and towards developing nations in the Global South.

In addition to immigration, the Israel-Hamas conflict was a primary focus at the event, with numerous speakers labeling it as genocide.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, a regular critic of Israel in Congress, took part in a panel titled “Visions for the World,” where she addressed the Palestinian cause, as reported by Adler. Omar was removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee in 2023 due to a history of anti-Semitic remarks.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a fellow member of the ‘Squad’ known for her history of antisemitic remarks, was met with a standing ovation at the summit. Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, Colombia’s deputy minister of multilateral affairs, lauded her as a ‘symbol of resistance’ against what he termed ‘fascism’ and acknowledged her efforts in advocating for the Palestinian cause within the United States.

Gerardo Fernández Noroña, the president of the Mexican Senate and a member of the Morena party, expressed his disapproval of the treatment of migrants in the U.S. during the Trump administration, labeling it as a form of unjust persecution.

He denounced the practice of targeting individuals based solely on their immigration status, skin color, or nationality, describing it as ‘infamous and wrong.’

‘These individuals are not merely detained—they are confined in facilities akin to those prohibited after World War II, such as Alligator Alcatraz,’ he stated. ‘The United States professes to be grieving the consequences of drug use, yet I have not witnessed a single raid targeting drug dealers conducted in the style of migrant operations.’

ICE has focused on apprehending and deporting criminal aliens who have violated other U.S. laws in addition to immigration regulations.
