WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Trump Administration has just doubled the bounty on Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, shocking the world with a historic $50 million reward for information leading to his capture.
Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the move in a video statement Thursday, citing Maduro’s deep ties to international drug cartels, including Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua, Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel, and the infamous Cartel of the Suns.
“Maduro uses foreign terrorist organizations to bring deadly drugs and violence into our country,” Bondi said. “Nearly seven tons of cocaine linked directly to him have been seized — cocaine often laced with fentanyl, killing countless Americans.”
Maduro has been under U.S. federal indictment since March 2020 for narco-terrorism, cocaine trafficking, weapons possession, and conspiracy. His regime has also been tied to the infiltration of the ultra-violent Tren de Aragua street gang into the United States, with President Trump designating the gang as a terrorist organization earlier this year.
Under Biden, the bounty rose to $25 million in 2021. Trump’s latest announcement doubles it — making this one of the largest rewards ever offered for a foreign leader.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, Maduro will not escape justice,” Bondi declared. “He will be held accountable for his despicable crimes.”
