Car Plunges Into Caribbean Sea in Santo Domingo

A car drove off the 30 de Mayo Highway near the Santo Domingo Helipad on Thursday and ended up in the Caribbean Sea, shocking witnesses.

Rescue teams recovered the body of the driver, though it remains unclear if others were inside.

General Superintendent José Luis Frómeta Herasme said they will search “until all possibilities are exhausted.”

The operation includes firefighters, the Dominican Navy, police, and the 9-1-1 drone unit.

Witnesses reported the driver first entered a nearby park, then “accelerated the vehicle toward the water.”

Authorities have not released details about the car but stressed the need for caution and strict traffic safety to prevent future tragedies.
