Residents of Mishima, a normally quiet city in Japan’s Shizuoka Prefecture, were left stunned after a violent attack injured more than 15 people.
According to police, the suspect used a katana-style blade and sulfuric acid during the incident. Emergency services responded quickly, and the area was secured.
The attacker has been identified as a 38-year-old man. Authorities confirmed he was arrested at the scene and stated there is no ongoing danger to the public.
Officials have not released details on a motive, and the investigation is ongoing. Local hospitals treated the injured, and officials said most injuries were non-fatal.
Violent crimes of this nature are rare in Japan, making the incident particularly alarming for residents and observers nationwide.
