The Last of Us, a post-apocalyptic drama based on the video game of the same name, has already impressed fans and critics alike.
Melanie Lynskey, who plays Kathleen, has hit out at the body shamers.
Model and ANTM winner Adrienne Curry took to Twitter to air her views on Lynksey’s looks.
“Her body says a life of luxury…not a post-apocalyptic warlord. Where is Linda Hamilton when you need her?” she said in a now-deleted Tweet.
But Lynskey was not having it.
“Firstly- this is a photo from my cover shoot for InStyle magazine, not a still from HBO’s The Last Of Us,” she wrote in response. “And I’m playing a person who meticulously planned & executed an overthrow of FEDRA.”
“I am supposed to be SMART, ma’m,” she added. “I don’t need to be muscly. That’s what henchmen are for.”
And now, another of The Last of Us’s stars had hit headlines.
Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, has opened up about their gender identity!
Speaking to GQ, they explained: “This is what bothers me more than pronouns: being called a ‘young woman’ or a ‘powerful young woman’, ‘young lady,’ but I’m just not.”
“Catherine Called Birdy, I was in dresses. Becoming Elizabeth, I was in a corset. And I felt super powerful in that.”
“Playing these more feminine characters is a chance to be something so opposite to myself, and it’s really fun.”
They also revealed they wore a chest binder for “90 per cent” of shooting The Last of Us.
“Which probably isn’t healthy, like please bind safely,” Ramsey prefaced.
Ramsey also revealed they had many conversations about gender with co-star Pedro Pascal, whose sister is trans.
“And they weren’t always deep: they could be funny and humorous, the whole spectrum. We were just very honest and open with each other.”
